Introduction to Rovers
Intro to Rovers is for people who have just joined Rovers. Giving them
a basic knowledge in aspects of Rovering such as; The Aim and Principles
of Rovering and the Scouting Movement, Rover Government, How to become
an “Invested Rover”, The Rover Award Scheme, Activities and
Crew Life, and Information on the rest of the training scheme.
Generally held in an afternoon or evening this course gives the “New” Rover an understanding of what Rovers is all about and what opportunities they have during their time in Rovers.
Basic Rover Training
Rover Basic Training is available to all Rovers who have completed the
Introduction to Rovers. It provides Sectional Techniques, Programming,
Organisational and Risk Management Skills.
This training course is suitable for any Rover that wants to develop a better understanding of the Rover Section and the greater Scouting Movement.
Generally held over two weekends, or one long weekend (4 days), this course will help to develop the participant’s skills. At the end of the training the Participant will have a greater understanding of the scouting movement and its Aims, Methods and Philosophies have the skills necessary to be involved in or running meetings, from Crew meetings to National meetings, Plan a program for a rover crew and understand the requirements to undertake Adventurous Activities.
On completion of the course the Rover will obtain the Gillwell Woggle, Certificate III in Business (Frontline Management) from Scouts Australia Institute of Training (SAIT) and with a First Aid Certificate a Cert III in Leadership Support.
Advanced Rover Training Offering Training in Event management, Conflict Resolution, Scouting Fundamentals, and Crew Management. This course is designed to challenge and push the participant to become a better Rover.
This is a 5-6 day (on average) Training course that will utilise the skills that the participant has gained since completing their Basic Training whilst providing many new skills.
Ultimately you will make the course what it is, by what you can offer it, hence it is paramount that there is at least a six month gap after the Basic Training before commencing the Advanced Rover Training.
On completion of the course the Rover will obtain the Gillwell Scarf, Certificate IV in Business (Frontline Management) from Scouts Australia institute of training (SAIT) and with a First Aid Certificate Cert IV in Leadership.
A Diploma of Leadership is offered to Rovers who have completed a Wood Badge. This requires completion of 11 workbooks. Whilst this is offered there is no equivalent Scout qualification. This also provides a Diploma of Business.
Adventurous Activities Training
Adventurous Activities training is open to all Rovers through their Branches
(states). Depending on the Branch you belong to will depend on the Activities
offered. SAIT is currently introducing units of competency from the National
Sport and Recreation Training Package in Bushwalking, Abseiling, Canoeing,
Kayaking and Sea Kayaking. On completion of a training course and completion
of any post course material, to a high level of competency, the participant
will also gain competencies in the units covered.
