How I started in Scouts

I have been involved in the Scouts since I joined the 1st Forrestfield Cub Pack when I was 8 years old. I have thoroughly enjoyed all of the sections of the Scouting, and learnt a lot of things along the way whilst having tons of fun. I have had some great opportunities during my Scouting Career and am honoured to have served as Vice Chairman and now to have been elected as NRC Chairman. I feel that I can now continue to give a bit back to Rovers.

Aims and Thoughts

I would like to see the National Rover Council move forward and be active in assisting the Branch Rover Councils. Strategic Plans give us clear guidance, direction and something to measure ourselves against. I’m keen to assist Branch Rover Councils in developing or reviewing their Strategic Plans to take Rovering into the future.

Most Rovers would achieve their Baden Powell Scout Award during their time in Rovers if only they understood it better or did their paperwork. The NRC Executive will continue to promote the BPSA and develop tools to encourage more Rovers to undertake this prestigious award and reduce some of the administrative burden.

I have experienced international events and would like other Rovers get a chance to experience an international event.

I believe Rovering is totally awesome and would like to get Rovers more promotion and members. To this end we are looking at developing promotional kits that crews can use to go out and promote themselves. This kit will be inline with the upcoming promotion of Rovers by the National Rover Council. The biggest recruiting stream for Rovers is Venturers. I will continue to encourage and promote joint activities with Venturers at all levels. Roverscope will be running at the Venture, this is a great chance for us to plug Rovers to the Venturers.

Many of the Branch Rover Councils have excellent resources they have developed and lots of useful information along with heaps of great merchandise. There is no point re-inventing the wheel. We should be able to share our resources better and concentrate on developing new things. This obviously relies on all of the Branch Rover Councils sharing their resources, but is something I think will prove very useful to Rovers throughout Australia.

We should continue to look at partnering with other organisations by developing mutually beneficial relationships.

I'm strongly believe that we should be recognising people better for the great work that is being done by Rovers all around Australia. There are many past and present Rovers, that deserve some of this recognition. The means to recognise them are there, we just need to use them.

Rovers is full of memory makers and the exec will be working hard this year to ensure that our main events are tracking well and that some great events will happen and that we get as many Rovers as possible along to them.

The National Rover Council is here to serve both Crews and Branches, so if anyone has any problems or questions, please dont hesitate to contact us.

I look forward to serving the Rover Section of Australia :)

How I Started In Scouts

I first joined Scouts in 1991 as a Cub at the 1 st Plympton Cub Pack when I was ten years old. I enjoyed my time as both a Cub and Scout and believe one of the best decisions I have ever made was to rejoin the Association as a Rover having quit Venturers after eight months in that section.

Rovering Career

I have been a member of the Bloo Rover Crew since 1999 serving as Crew Leader in 2001 and 2002. Since 2003 I have served the South Australian Branch Rover Council as Membership Officer (2003), Vice Chairman(2004), Chairman(2005) and recently I was re-elected as Chairman for 2006. As BRC Chairman I have been a Youth Representative on the Branch Development Committee and the Branch Operations Committee as well as representing the Rover section at Chief Commissioners Council meetings.

The best time I have had in Rovers would definitely have to be TassieMoot. I would have to rate this as one of the best experiences I have ever had and would strongly urge everyone to try and attend at least one National Moot in their time in Rovering.

Aims and Thoughts

One of the areas I would like to work on during the year is to help Branches get the Scouts of the World Award running. I believe there are many benefits to this award for Branches, Crews, and individuals but unfortunately there still seems to be some confusion with the implementation of the program.

I strongly believe that one of the key areas Branches need to focus on is strong communication with Crews to ensure that as many Branch and National initiatives reach the Rovers at the grass root level. I am keen to continue looking at improvements of NRC publications to help Crews with programming and promotion. I believe that we need to ensure that Crews have the resources to run a balanced program and promote themselves effectively. Branch and National promotion can only work so far, it is at a Crew level where this needs to be followed up as Crews are the face of Rovering.

Resource sharing has been invaluable between Branches in the last few years. This is something that I am keen to see continue as there are some great ideas that can be used in all Branches, often we find ourselves tackling similar issues and trying to re-invent the wheel.

I’m keen to support the establishment of Rovers in the Northern Territory and help with any ideas and resources we can make available. It would be great to see to follow on from having our first Rover representative at NRC this year for a long time from the Northern Territory, and I would love to see a multi Branch activity held there some time soon.

How I Started In Scouts

Following a few friends from school I joined my local Cub Pack at 1st Upwey Scout Group. I have made many new friends during my journey from Cubs to Rovers. Along the way I have accomplished a lot of things, been given amazing opportunities and undertaken many challenges.

Rovering Career

In 1999 I linked from Ventures into the Grace Logan Rover Crew. In 2000 I was given the opportunity to participate in international scouting at the Kandersteg International Scout Center, Switzerland. Upon my return to Australia I Joined the “New” District Rover Crew, E.J. Marshall RC. I committed my time to my studies for the next 2 years attending crew activities when possible. After finishing my studies I have involved myself in Crew Life tackling the following positions;
